Course Summary:
The Waste Management Awareness course introduces the student to hazard communication, waste minimization, and waste management. It defines hazardous materials, reviews labeling requirements, and introduces material safety data sheets and key terms used in chemical safety. Basic concepts for working safely with chemicals and methods for waste minimization are taught. Information is presented through lecture, films, and group participation.

The training includes the following topics:

Pollution prevention and waste minimization
Initial waste accumulation requirements
Required notifications
Handling incidents related to waste in initial accum containers
Required record keeping
Dealing with wastes of unknown origin
Interaction with Ecology and EPA regulators

Target Audience:
This course is intended for hazardous waste generators.

Course Prerequisites:
Hanford Site Orientation, Course 02006A

Course Evaluation:
An examination will be used to measure student mastery of the training objectives.

The student must attain a score of 80 percent or higher on the written examination for successful course completion.

4 hours
