Entering a simulated radiological buffer area and radiation area

Responding to simulated abnormal situations

Responding to simulated alarms or faulty radiological control equipment

Frisking for personnel contamination

Verifying instrument operation and response
While standardized academic training is designed to be delivered in a classroom setting, alternative settings may be used. Knowledge objectives are the basis for skills/tasks to be performed in practical factors training, which uses hands-on training to demonstrate mastery of the ALARA principles, contamination control techniques, and response to abnormal conditions. Students and facilities are not placed at unnecessary risk.
Target Audience: The course is designed for general employees from all disciplines. Reading and understanding English is necessary.
Course Prerequisites: There are no course prerequisites.
Course Evaluation: A written examination and practical evaluation are used to measure student mastery of the training objectives. A score of 80 percent or higher is required on the written examination and students must satisfactorily complete the practical evaluation.
Course Length: 16 hours
